Worming from Home Money Guide: Work & Upgrade Planning

Compare work, harder spreadsheets and stocks, separate cash from net worth, and choose what to fund next.

Early-game demo guide
Fund the next required purchase first.Complete paid work, keep purchase money in cash, and spend on the item or perk that helps you finish more work. Stock value can help, but it must be sold before it pays for an upgrade.

Choose an income route you can use

Route What you do Main constraint
Work tasks Finish the requested spreadsheet or message objective Active time and keyboard movement
Advanced Spreadsheets Unlock and finish harder files More complex prompts and shortcuts
Stocks Buy and later sell shares Price can fall; money is tied up
Hat-linked perk Earn while wearing a hat Requires the perk and an equipped hat
Intern A demo shop description advertises passive income Exact full-game unlock, price and rate are not covered here

Do not budget around an intern you cannot yet buy. For the opening objectives, task income and the first perk choices are the routes you can actively plan around.

Higher payout or faster completion?

A harder file can pay more while still producing less money per minute if you struggle with it.

Illustrative comparison: a task paying 20 that takes two minutes earns 10 per minute. A task paying 40 that takes eight minutes earns 5 per minute. These are example numbers, not game rewards. Compare your own completed tasks before assuming a bigger payout is the faster route.

If keyboard movement is the bottleneck, learn Ctrl shortcuts or consider a work upgrade before unlocking harder files.

Make a purchase plan

  1. Read the required item and its current price.
  2. Check cash separately from stock value.
  3. Reserve the amount needed for the objective.
  4. Use spare cash for training or an upgrade that solves a recurring problem.
  5. Leave decorative purchases until your next essential item is covered.

In the demo, Reading Nook training introduces perk progression. That is a more useful early reason to buy it than simply trying to collect every shop item.

Why net worth is not spending money

The day summary separates cash and stocks. If your combined value looks high but you cannot afford a shop item, inspect the cash component. You may need to sell shares or complete another paid task.

Avoid counting the same balance twice: after a sale, the value has moved from shares to cash. It is not a second reward on top of the shares you sold.

Protect tomorrow’s earning time

A long optional task can interfere with sleep or the next deadline. Stop when the extra income is less useful than arriving at tomorrow’s required work ready to finish it.
